Govt Sets Up 24-Hour Command Centre to Curb Fake KCSE Papers and Online Scams

The government has stepped up efforts to curb the circulation of fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam materials online by unveiling a 24-hour National Command Centre dedicated to tracking, identifying, and arresting digital fraudsters.

According to Internal Security and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, the multi-agency command hub is now fully operational and actively working with security teams across the country to safeguard the credibility of this year’s KCSE examinations, which begin next week.

Located at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration headquarters, the command centre brings together officers from key departments including the Ministry of Education, Ministry of ICT, and the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC). It runs around the clock, continuously scanning social media platforms and other digital spaces to detect and respond to any suspicious online activity.

“The centre allows us to access and assess information in real time, and where there are gaps, we immediately intervene. So, our officers are monitoring various social media platforms to identify and neutralize individuals seeking to defraud parents, teachers, or candidates with fake exam leaks,” PS Omollo said on Wednesday.

He disclosed that authorities have already identified several fraudsters posing as examination insiders, luring unsuspecting parents and teachers with false promises of leaked exam papers in exchange for money.

“We have known that in previous years, there have been challenges of early exposure. The Command Centre is coordinating all efforts to ensure that anyone involved is apprehended and prosecuted without delay,” Omollo added.

Speaking in Starehe Sub-County, Nairobi, after supervising the opening of a KPSEA and KJSEA examination container, Omollo assured Kenyans that the government has implemented comprehensive measures to secure all national exams.

He noted that security agencies at both national and county levels are working hand-in-hand with KNEC to ensure fairness and transparency throughout the process.

“We are already supporting the ongoing KJSEA and KPSEA examinations that began across the country on Monday. We shall sustain the same vigilance as KCSE candidates begin their papers next week,” said the PS.

Omollo also revealed that the command centre will oversee the safe transportation of exam materials, especially to regions affected by heavy rains, ensuring that no student misses their exams.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the integrity of Kenya’s education system and ensuring that all candidates sit their examinations free from disruptions, misinformation, or criminal interference.
