Governor Abba Yusuf takes action as police, DSS block Kano Emir’s palace

Governor Abba Yusuf has sent representatives to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, but they were reportedly denied access to the palace by security forces.

The delegation was on a mission to mediate after police and operatives of Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly barricaded the palace, preventing the Emir from attending a royal ceremony in Bichi Local Government Area.

The event, intended for the presentation of a staff of office to a new district head, was disrupted as armed officers, accompanied by armoured vehicles, restricted all movement in and out of the palace.

Sources revealed the Emir was ready to leave for the ceremony when he was ordered to remain indoors.

A source told Channels TV:

“The Emir has been on the phone trying to understand what is happening. He was prepared to leave for the ceremony when the security operatives arrived and ordered him to remain indoors.

“His Excellency sent representatives to meet with the Emir and mediate, but even they were not allowed past the barricade.”

Meanwhile, the ceremony venue in Bichi was also cordoned off, leaving attendees stranded.

The reason behind the heavy security presence remains unclear, and no official statements have been issued by either the state government or the Emirate Council.
