Gianluigi Donnarumma joins Manchester City on deadline day

Gianluigi Donnarumma has completed his move from Paris Saint-Germain to join former Premier League Champions Manchester City on a permanent deal.

Manchester City completed the deal for the 26-year-old on the deadline day of the 2025 summer transfer window. He signed a five-year deal which will keep him at the Etihad until the summer of 2030.

This move means James Trafford who joined City from Burnley for £27m in the beginning of August might have to start getting used to live on the bench. This would be an easy decision to Pep Guardiola following Trafford's poor form in the opening three games of the season.

What did Gianluigi Donnarumma say about his move to Manchester City?

He said,

I am joining a squad packed with world-class talent and a team led by the one of the greatest managers in the history of football in Pep Guardiola. This is a club every player in world football would love to join. I have admired watching Manchester City for many years so to now be able to play for the club is a huge honour and a privilege. I cannot wait to meet my new teammates, the staff and the fans. Playing at the Etihad Stadium will be very, very special for me. I am very excited for what lies ahead and can promise that I will give absolutely everything to try and help the Club achieve even more success.”

The Italian international was frozen out of PSG by Luis Enrique after the defeat against Chelsea at the Club World Cup in July 2025. Things went off between both parties when he was left out of the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur.

However, this incident left Gianluigi Donnarumma in search of a new club which ended up being Manchester City with Ederson joining Fernabache in the Turkish League The Brazilian joined City in the summer of 2017 for £35m from Portuguese club Benfica. He has made 372 appearances, keeping 168 clean sheets.
