Ghanaian social media sensation Kwadwo Sheldon has stirred controversy online after taking a swipe at Nigeria following the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Sheldon, known for his unapologetic humour and bold commentary, sarcastically questioned how a country battling persistent electricity challenges planned to compete on football’s grandest stage.

“You don’t have electricity, yet you want to go to the World Cup. How would your citizens even watch you?” he quipped, igniting a flurry of reactions across social media.

The jab quickly intensified the already heated rivalry between Ghanaian and Nigerian football fans. While some Ghanaians found Sheldon’s comment hilarious, many Nigerians brushed it off as mere banter, insisting that football misfortune should not be tied to national issues.

Nigeria’s failure to secure a spot at the 2026 World Cup has become a major talking point across Africa. The Super Eagles missed out after a dramatic loss to DR Congo in the Africa Play-offs final. Despite taking an early lead, Nigeria fell 4–3 on penalties following a tightly contested match on Sunday, November 16, at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
