Dr. Kofi Nsiah-Poku, managing director of Kinapharma Group, has been elected president of the Association of Ghana Industries, taking over from Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke.

The Association of Ghana Industries represents companies across pharmaceuticals, food processing, metals, textiles and more, working with ministries and regulators on industrial policy and market development.

His elevation puts one of Ghana’s most recognizable industrial leaders at the helm of the private sector’s main manufacturers’ lobby. Members expect a harder push on reliable power, faster regulatory timelines and incentives that help factories scale and hire.

Nsiah-Poku, a consultant pharmacist who founded Kinapharma, also has public-policy experience, including service as vice chair of the National Development Planning Commission. Allies say that mix of shop-floor pragmatism and statecraft could help align industry needs with government planning.

The leadership change comes as firms juggle rising costs and a cautious recovery in output. Manufacturers want clearer rules, predictable taxes and export support to compete across West Africa. The new AGI team is expected to keep those issues front and center.

Kofi Nsiah-Poku is the founder and chief executive of Kinapharma, a leading Ghanaian drugmaker. Launched in 1998, the company produces more than 150 medicines, including generics and branded therapies. He also founded M&G Pharmaceuticals, expanding West Africa’s manufacturing base and helping make essential drugs more accessible and affordable across the region.
