Ghana Air Traffic Engineers suspend planned nationwide strike

The Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, which was scheduled to begin on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

In a statement signed by its President, Engr. David Annan Mensah, the association explained that the decision followed successful discussions with the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) governing board and management.

The talks focused on addressing long-standing concerns about poor welfare conditions and management’s lack of action.

“Following constructive engagement with the GCAA governing board and management, we have decided to suspend our planned strike action, which was scheduled to take effect from October 30, 2025,” the statement read.

GhATSEA expressed its gratitude to all stakeholders who participated in the negotiations and said it is hopeful that the ongoing discussions will lead to a lasting solution to all unresolved issues.

“We appreciate the efforts made by all stakeholders during the discussions and remain optimistic that the ongoing engagements will result in a permanent resolution of all outstanding matters,” the statement added.

Earlier, GhATSEA had threatened to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike over issues such as poor welfare conditions, unfair job placements, inequitable salary administration, and unresolved welfare matters dating back more than 15 years.

The association assured the public and all aviation stakeholders that it remains committed to maintaining safety and professionalism in the delivery of air navigation services across Ghana.

“We remain steadfast in upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism in providing air navigation services nationwide,” it stated.

GhATSEA also commended the Acting Director-General of the GCAA, Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, and the Acting Deputy Director-General (Technical), Mr. Theophilus Aryee Ago, for their dedication and leadership during the negotiation process.

The association thanked the media and the public for their patience and understanding throughout the period of industrial tension, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring the continued safe and efficient operation of Ghana’s airspace.
