Osimhen

Okan Buruk has praised Victor Osimhen following his influential display in Galatasaray’s remarkable 5–2 victory over Juventus on Tuesday night.

Although Osimhen did not get on the scoresheet, the Nigerian striker provided two assists and led the line with relentless energy, constantly unsettling the Juventus defence as Galatasaray dominated proceedings in one of the club’s most memorable European performances.

The result was historic. It marked the first time a Turkish side had scored five goals in a UEFA Champions League match and the first time Juventus had conceded that many goals in the competition.

Buruk said Osimhen’s all-round contribution demonstrates why the club broke its transfer record to sign him permanently from Napoli last summer for €75 million, the highest fee ever paid by a Turkish club.

“Osimhen is a fantastic player. I don’t think he’s just a forward who plays for his own stats; he’s a complete team player. He plays for the team,” Buruk told talkSPORT, as reported by Le Marca Sports.

“He scores goals. He makes assists — for example, last night he was involved in three goals. Up front, we apply pressure with him. All three goals started with him. He’s a team player; he can play in any league. He’s a wonderful person and a wonderful footballer.

“As you know, last year he was a dream for Galatasaray. We brought him from Napoli; it was a dream for us, and we paid €75 million.

“For the first time in the Turkish league, a team paid a fee like €75 million. It’s a record. And we spent all our money on him.”
