Nigerian artist Anthony Ebuka Victor, better known as Victony, credits his hit song ‘Soweto’ for significantly altering the course of his career. In a recent interview with Sound City, Victony discussed how the global success of ‘Soweto’ opened doors for him. He explained:

“‘Soweto’ changed my life. It changed my life in the sense that I was able to travel to places I didn’t believe I would reach in such a short time. The song had already gained success by late 2022, and to keep that momentum in 2023, we decided to feature Don Toliver and Rema on the remix. They’re big names, and their sounds align closely with what ‘Soweto’ is about.”

Victony also revealed that he is currently an independent artist. Earlier reports from Tooxclusive highlighted that Victony has undergone four surgeries and has another one scheduled. He survived a severe car accident in 2021 that left him in a coma for four days. During an interview on the Adesope Live segment at the Afroland Festival, Victony spoke about his ongoing recovery and upcoming North American tour. He shared:

“Honestly, I am blessed, and the world can see it. I’m still in the recovery phase but am able to continue performing. I’m about to go on tour. Reflecting on the past year and recent times, I’ve had four surgeries and will need one more after the tour. Yet, I still see it as a blessing. Going in and out of the hospital, I take pain relievers before hitting the stage, and I continue to record. I thank God for His grace—it’s not by my strength. I don’t know why He’s blessing me so much.”

In February 2023, Victony announced a two-month break from music following his third surgery.
