  • Forza Horizon 6 arrives in 2026, five years after the last installment.
  • The game is set in Japan, with urban and rural settings plus seasons.
  • Expect a wide range of cars and the most detailed world yet created.

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for automotive-themed video games as Grand Theft Auto VI will be joined by Forza Horizon 6. The latter was announced at the Xbox Tokyo Game Show and will arrive five years after Forza Horizon 5.

While the previous installment focused on Mexico, the new game will embrace the “breathtaking landscapes of Japan.” The teaser video provides a brief glimpse of this as the clip ends with a look at Mount Fuji as well as cherry blossoms blowing in the wind.

That’s not a lot to go on, but Xbox Wire talked to Playground Games’ art director Don Arceta and cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita. Arceta said, “Japan has been top of Horizon fans’ wish lists, so we’re excited to finally be bringing this much-requested location to players.” He added, “Japan has such a unique culture – from cars, to music, to fashion – that make it perfect for the next Horizon setting.”

The duo added the open world racing game will feature natural and urban environments ranging from the “neon lights and towering buildings of Tokyo City – one of our most detailed and layered environments to date – to the serenity and natural beauty of Japan’s rural and mountain areas.” Arceta also stated the Forza Horizon 5 Hot Wheels DLC [downloadable content] helped them to create the “elevated roads of Tokyo City in FH6.”

The pair didn’t go into many specifics, but teased a “broad range of cars that players will know and love.” Arceta went on to note Japan has a unique car culture and they’re excited to explore that in the game. This suggests we can expect everything from kei cars and vans to drifting.

There are more questions than answers at this point, but Forza Horizon 6 will be available on the Xbox Series X and S as well as Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, and Xbox Play Anywhere. The game will also be offered on Steam and Game Pass, before eventually landing on PlayStation 5 sometime after launch.
