Former acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State university, Prof Dawood Egbefo, dies two weeks after leaving office

Prof. Dawood Egbefo, the immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyahmo, has passed away just two weeks after handing over to his successor. According to Daily Trust, the sad development was announced by the institutions spokesperson, Amaechi Kelly Quincy, in a statement shared on the universitys official Facebook page. Governor Monday Okpebholo had earlier, on August 8, 2025, approved the appointment of Prof. Victor Adetimirin Olawale as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the institution, succeeding Egbefo. Although the cause of his death was not disclosed, the university described Prof. Egbefo as a distinguished scholar, mentor, and astute administrator whose contributions to academia will be remembered. Egbefo obtained his Bachelors, Masters, and PhD degrees in History and International Studies from the University of Ilorin.
