Finance Ministry outlines new vision for economic growth

Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has outlined government’s plans to reshape Ghana’s economy to make it more competitive on the global stage.

The strategy focuses on value addition, innovation, and increased productivity.

He shared this vision at the ACI World Congress 2026 on Friday, May 22, 2026.

He said the government aims to transform the structure of the economy to support long-term stability and sustainable growth.

According to him, the reform agenda will move the economy away from raw material extraction and push it toward value-added production.

He also said the plan will reduce informality, strengthen productivity, build resilience, and improve competitiveness.

“We want Ghanaian businesses to compete globally. We want African capital to finance African transformation, and we want our financial markets to become engines of innovation, enterprise, and long-term prosperity,” he said.

Mr. Nyarko Ampem added that the government wants to create conditions where young people can build and grow technology companies instead of relying only on traditional employment opportunities.

He explained that the broader vision includes a more commercially driven agricultural sector that focuses on exports and value addition. He also said the policy will strengthen local industries so they can compete effectively in international markets.

In addition, he noted that the government plans to expand digital financial inclusion to ensure more people and communities can access modern financial services.
