Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped four places to 30th  in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, released on Wednesday, and slipped from fourth to sixth in Africa.

The three-time African champions lost 17.05 points after a difficult international window, falling from 1,585.02 to 1,567.97. The slide included a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Victor Osimhen missed the window through injury.

Algeria, now 28th  globally, and Côte d’Ivoire, 29th , moved ahead of Nigeria, which cost the Super Eagles two places on the continent.

Guinea-Bissau climbed eight places to 124th . Other African beneficiaries of qualifying results include Rwanda (119th , up nine), The Gambia (109th , up seven), Botswana (141st , up six) and Mozambique (98th, up five).

Nigeria can recover ground in the next FIFA international window, where strong results would help them climb back up the world and African tables.

At the top, world champions Spain lead with 2,011.57 points. Argentina, beaten finalists at the FIFA World Cup 2026, are second and almost 40 points behind. France are third.

Portugal are the only climbers in the top 10, rising two places to fifth and overtaking Brazil (sixth) and Morocco (seventh). Switzerland are up two places to 12th .

Mali (47th ) and South Africa (48th ) each rose six places into the top 50, which now includes 10 CAF teams. FIFA says 338 men’s internationals have been played since the World Cup final on 19 July.
