The Federal Government has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of efforts to protect the newly constructed road infrastructure.

The restriction, which takes effect this week, was disclosed by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olufemi Dare, in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to Dare, the decision was taken to prevent misuse of the highway and preserve its condition for long-term public use.

He explained that the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a major national infrastructure project that requires proper maintenance to ensure durability and safety for road users.

The government also prohibited indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles on the highway and other bridges across Lagos State.

In addition, the Ministry of Works warned against the dumping of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable and harmful to the environment and road infrastructure.

Dare stated that warning signs indicating the new restrictions have already been installed along the route, while enforcement teams will be deployed to strategic locations to ensure compliance.

He warned that violators of the directives would face sanctions as authorities move to maintain order and safeguard the facility.

Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class project, the controller urged motorists and other road users to obey the regulations in the interest of public safety and national development.

He stressed that protecting the highway would help extend its lifespan and preserve its value for future generations of Nigerians.
