Female Nurse Sentenced To 18 Months In Prison For Sleeping With Patient

A nurse has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to serve two years of extended supervision after engaging in a segxwal relationship with a patient and later falsely accusing him of segxwal assault.

Melissa Knutson was convicted of misconduct in public office and obstructing an officer in connection with the 2022 incident, which occurred while she was working with the Monroe County Drug Court. As part of her duties, Knutson was responsible for administering Vivitrol, a medication used in the treatment of substance abuse, to the patient.

Prosecutors revealed that when authorities began investigating the inappropriate relationship, Knutson accused the patient of segxwally assaulting her. She claimed she had remained silent about the alleged assault because she feared he might harm her or her family.

However, investigators later obtained text messages that contradicted her claims. The messages reportedly showed that Knutson initiated the relationship and even promised to deny any involvement if their conduct was exposed.

Confronted with the evidence, Knutson admitted that the assault allegation was fabricated in an attempt to avoid facing consequences for her actions.

The court’s ruling brings the case to a close, underscoring the serious legal and professional consequences of violating ethical standards and making false accusations.
