The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, on Thursday decorated 733 officers promoted in the 2025 senior promotion exercise.

The command assured residents that emergency response to fires and other emergencies across the territory will become faster and more efficient as a result of the morale boost from the unprecedented advancement.

Controller of the FCT Command, Suleiman M. Anas, stated at the ceremony held at the Command Headquarters, Kubwa, that the promotion, conducted by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Board (CDCFIB), is the highest number of beneficiaries recorded since the command’s inception, which highlights commitment to personnel welfare and operational efficiency.

According to Anas, the promoted officers cut across ranks: three Chief Superintendents of Fire elevated to Assistant Controllers, 36 Superintendents to Chief Superintendents, 22 Deputy Superintendents to Superintendents, 547 Assistant Superintendents of Fire I to Deputy Superintendents, 46 Assistant Superintendents II to Assistant Superintendents I, and 79 Inspectors to Assistant Superintendents II.

He attributed the milestone to the leadership of the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, while praising his personal efforts in ensuring timely promotions and sustained morale within the Service.

“Promotion is a major welfare issue and a strong motivator,” Anas said, assuring residents that officers are in high spirits and prepared to give “101 per cent” in safeguarding lives and property.

He noted that the command’s emergency response has been swift and will be even faster with the added motivation, urging residents to remain safety-conscious and to promptly call emergency numbers at the first sign of an incident to aid rapid deployment.

Addressing the newly promoted officers, the controller reminded them that increased responsibility accompanies advancement, and stressed professionalism, diligence and readiness to serve.

He also announced that the promotion would necessitate internal rejigging and redeployments within the command to optimize service delivery across the FCT.

Earlier, the Deputy Controller and Operational Commander, Abdulganuyu Momodu, described the occasion as a moment of gratitude. He congratulated the officers and charged them to see their elevation as a call to higher service to the government and the public.

Goodwill messages highlighted the demands of public safety work and the support systems that enable it.

Representing the Guards Brigade, Lt. Col. Sunday Olajide Laleye in his goodwill message, encouraged officers to use the opportunities responsibly, and noted the rigorous training and years of service that preceded their promotion.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of families, urging continued support as officers shoulder greater responsibilities.

He said, “For the opportunities, I will encourage you to use them properly. For the challenges, that is why you have gone through different steps to get to this round. You must have gone on courses, you must have served a particular number of years, and you must have met the requirements to be promoted today.

“All this will guide you going forward. To the families of the newly promoted officers, let me also congratulate you and assure you that the police must stop praying for them, must stop supporting them. For me, I used to mention that I have a good microphone, I used to tell my audience that my wife, that now she is a diplomat, she is an electrician, because when I am not around, there is no choice but to do all these things.

“So, I know what it is for us to work in this manner. So for the families who continue to understand with us, it is not always easy, but with your support and with your prayers, I know we will always excel. Back to the newly promoted officers, I know that this promotion will come with some level of increase in your salary. As such, let it show on your family.”

Also speaking, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) FCT Command representative, ACC Yakubu Ene, reminded the officers of the responsibilities ahead and expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver.
