Farouk Kibet Tells Luhya: Partner with Kalenjin and Claim Presidency After Ruto

Farouk Kibet has thrown his weight behind Western Kenya as President William Ruto’s preferred successor in 2032, once Ruto completes his final term.

Speaking at a funeral service in Malava constituency on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Kibet urged the region to rally behind Ruto’s reelection in 2027, noting that after his final term in 2032, Western Kenya stands a strong chance of producing his successor.

Kibet affirmed that Ruto would be ready to back any leader from the Mulembe community who shows interest in taking over from him.

He added that since the Mulembe and Kalenjin communities are close neighbours, the Kalenjin people would gladly return the favor after enjoying Ruto’s two terms in office.

“William Ruto ako na 5 years; term yake ya mwisho ikimalizika, 10 years ambayo haijaanza mimi naomba iwe ya Mluhya. Jirani wa karibu si ni Mkalenjin? Si wako na kura? Mbona tusitembeleane? Jamii ya Mlembe na jamii ya Kalenjin, mkiweka umoja, nyinyi mtakalia kiti baada ya Ruto,” Farouk Kibet stated.

Translated loosely: (“William Ruto has five years; when his final term ends, I am asking that the following ten years belong to the Luhya. Your closest neighbour is the Kalenjin, isn’t it? Don’t they have the votes? Why shouldn’t we support each other? If the Mulembe and Kalenjin communities unite, you will take the presidency after Ruto”)

Farouk’s remarks come just days after National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula openly declared his ambition to succeed Ruto in 2032.

Wetang’ula also urged the community to unite behind Ruto’s reelection in 2027, saying that only through such support can the region realize its dream of producing a president from their own. He emphasized that leadership requires sacrifice, where one allows others to use their shoulders to rise so that, in turn, those leaders will return the favor.

“When you want to be a leader, you must allow other people to use your shoulders to climb to power so that when your time arrives, they will also give you their shoulder to climb.”

He stressed that his own actions reflect this principle. “Personally, I am doing so, for the Luhya community’s dream of wanting to rule the country will be determined by the 2027 elections. We will support William Ruto, and after his term in 2032, I will be ready to take over from him; the field will be open,” Wetang’ula stated.
