Elon’s Robotaxi Fleet in Austin: 5 Cars & 60% “Sorry, Not Today” Vibes

Austin Robotaxi update just dropped and it’s peak Elon energy:

Elon: “Hundreds of Robotaxis already rolling, full-scale deployment, world-changing, yadda yadda.”

Reality (thanks to a Texas A&M engineering student who basically hacked the app like it’s 2005):

• Active vehicles at any moment: ≈5
• Service unavailable roughly 60% of the time
• Translation: Your Robotaxi is either napping, in maintenance, or just ghosting you like that one date in 2019.

So the “revolutionary autonomous fleet” is basically five lonely Cybercabs taking turns circling the same 3-block radius while the app says “try again later” more often than your ex texts back.

Meanwhile competitors are out here expanding actual fleets and Elon’s launch looks more like a very expensive photo-op with five robot friends.

Student who reverse-engineered it: “I just wanted to see how many cars were really out there.” Elon’s PR team: sweating in binary.

Moral of the story: If your Robotaxi service is down more than it’s up, maybe it’s not a fleet… it’s a very exclusive car-sharing club for five lucky vehicles.
