Elsewedy Electric, the Cairo-based multinational cable and electrical equipment manufacturer led by the Egyptian billionaire El-Sewedy family, has teamed up with Raneen Energy to host a technical seminar in Doha aimed at strengthening Qatar’s power network. The meeting brought together engineers, regulators and industry executives to review compliance with Kahramaa standards for dry transformers, oil-immersed transformers and busway systems.

Shared standards and market entry

The seminar doubled as the formal launch of the partnership between Elsewedy Electric for Electrical Products and Raneen Energy. Speakers walked through certification procedures for equipment entering the Qatari market and outlined how both companies plan to supply products that meet Kahramaa’s requirements.

Executives said the collaboration will help introduce reliable, efficient systems that support the country’s long-term power needs. The gathering also offered room for candid exchanges—engineers raised practical concerns, suppliers compared notes, and regulators clarified expectations, adding a more personal tone to what could have been a technical session.

Local manufacturing push

Raneen Energy said it intends to build an industrial complex in Qatar within five years to manufacture transformers, busway systems, substation components and switchgear panels. The plan fits Qatar National Vision 2030, which encourages more local production and broader economic activity.

Elsewedy Electric highlighted its focus on responsible manufacturing and the use of materials designed to cut energy use. Company officials said the approach reflects growing demand for equipment that aligns with Qatar’s environmental goals.

Under the alliance, Raneen Energy will become the exclusive distributor of Elsewedy Electric’s products in Qatar. The companies expect the value of the partnership to top QAR 100 million ($27.5 million) in the coming years, supported by Elsewedy’s eight decades of experience in electrical manufacturing.

Expanding regional footprint

Elsewedy Electric operates more than 34 production facilities and has a presence in over 110 countries. Founded in 1938, it has grown from a small wire producer in Cairo into one of the region’s largest suppliers of cables, transformers and electrical systems.

The company reported a profit of $298.5 million for the first nine months of 2025, while revenue reached a record $4.22 billion. Last month, ElSewedy Industrial Development, a subsidiary of the group, signed an agreement with Cairo-based Arabia Developments to build and manage a major industrial zone in New 6th of October City.
