The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Okpebolo, has taken the lead in the 2024 Edo State governorship election, according to the latest results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

As of the most recent update, INEC has declared results from 16 out of the 18 local government areas in the state. The current standings are:

1. APC: 244,549 votes
2. PDP: 195,954 votes
3. LP: 13,348 votes

Two local government areas are yet to be announced, with results expected later today around 5 PM Nigerian Time.

The collation center has taken a brief recess but is set to resume shortly to complete the announcement process. INEC officials have stated that the results from the remaining two LGAs will be crucial in determining the final outcome of the election.

Meanwhile, tensions have risen in Benin City as supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have gathered at the INEC headquarters to protest the ongoing collation of results. The protesters claim irregularities in the voting process, though these allegations have not been independently verified.
