Editorial: Confidence News Nigeria @1: A year of “Journalism of Courage”

January 14, 2025, is another milestone as Confidence News NG is one year old. We look back at this report on our accomplishments, celebrate the hard work of our team members, and indicate how much growth and recognition we have obtained.

One year of “Journalism of Courage”

Confidence News NG was established on January 14, 2024, with a clear motto: “Journalism of Courage.” It has been our mission to deliver quality content, inspire media excellence, and substantially contribute to the journalism scene. These were our ideals in the last 12 months while the achievements speak for themselves.”

Team members’ recognition

The team members have made remarkable progress over the 12-month period, and they have been instrumental in our success, we are proud to recognize their achievements. Notably, our publisher, Temitope Muhideen, was inducted and substantially become a member of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), he was equally elected as the General Secretary of Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN). Similarly,  Muhammad Bashir Shuaib, Head of our Investigation/Investigative Unit, was selected as a fellow in the first cohort of the Fact Check Africa and AI Journalism training. This prestigious program equipped him with AI-powered tools for journalism, alongside other accomplished journalists.

Hawal Momolosho’s brilliant report on fuel scarcity earned him the most sought-after award for Best Campus Reporter in the 2024 News Digest Campus Journalism Awards. These testify to the knowledge and dedication of the members of our team.

Organizational achievement

Confidence News NG, has enjoyed growing national recognition-from the slotting of a Next Generation Reporter Intern as part of the Campus Reporter initiative to being shortlisted among the finalists for the 12th edition of the Kwame Nkrumah Best Media Outlet of the Year Award in 2024.

This was largely due to our investigative report on the abuse of marijuana by residents of the Okesuna area, Ilorin. These feats have pointedly indicated the commitment of our organization to excellence and our increasing clout in the media landscape.

Final Thoughts

On this, our first anniversary, we would like to say thanks to all readers, partners, and team members who have stayed with us thus far. To make sure that our media and storytelling will be a testament to such principles, our team will continue to engage in the highest standards of journalists in all that we do.
