Dozens Rescued, 3 Dead, 38 Still Trapped as School Building Collapse In Indonesia

A tragic incident struck East Java, Indonesia, after a school building collapsed, leaving students and workers trapped under rubble.

Rescue teams have managed to pull out dozens of survivors, with 99 people hospitalized, some in critical condition. Sadly, three deaths have already been confirmed.

Authorities revealed that around 38 people are still trapped beneath the collapsed structure of Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, located in the East Java town of Sidoarjo.

According to early investigations, the two-storey building had an unstable foundation and was unable to support the added construction of two more floors. Witnesses said two young girls narrowly escaped because they were praying in another part of the building when it collapsed.

Rescue workers described hearing cries and shouts for help as they arrived on the scene, rushing to pull survivors out from under the debris.

In a statement released by the National Agency for Disaster Management, It reads: “Efforts to assess the site, monitor the remaining building structure, and prepare evacuation routes for victims are the primary focus of the teams on the ground.

“The public and managers of multistorey buildings are urged to ensure technical supervision during construction to prevent similar occurrences in the future”
