Donation drive this Sunday (16 Nov) for typhoon-hit areas of Cebu in the Philippines

In the past week, the Philippines has been hit by a series of deadly typhoons which has left many villages devastated and thousands homeless. First Typhoon Kalmaegi struck Cebu in the central Philippines, leaving more than a hundred dead and many more missing as a state of emergency was declared in the area, before Super Typhoon Fung-Wong made landfall earlier this week.

Cebu was also hit by a magnitude-6.9 earthquake at the end of September, which left dozens dead and a large rebuilding effort ahead of various townships.

To help those affected, humanitarian aid agency Relief Singapore (RSG) and Bethesda Bedok Tampines Church (BBTC) are organising a one-day donation drive this Sunday, 16 November, to collect specific sanitary items, which will be distributed in the Philippines by YWAM Cebu, aided by logistics partners Airlink and Leeway.

RSG and BBTC have previously collaborated on similar relief efforts for those affected in Myanmar and Gaza.

LIST OF DONATION ITEMS

  • Sanitary pads
  • Disposable underwear
  • Antibacterial bar soap
  • Body wipes (biodegradable)
  • Toothbrushes
  • Toothpaste
  • Ziplock bags (Small) – for packing soap
  • Ziplock bags (Large) – for packing hygiene kits

All items must be new and unopened, organisers added. Any other items will not be accepted, due to logistical limitations.

DONATION DRIVE VENUE AND TIMING

The collection venue is the car park of Bethesda Bedok Tampines Church, at 300 Bedok North Ave 3, Singapore 469717. While the car park will be open on Sunday, 16 November, for the whole day, please note that from 8am to 2pm, it will be open for BBTC members only due to church service timings, while members of the public can make their donations from 2pm to 8pm on Sunday.

Please follow Relief Singapore on Facebook for relevant updates on the collection drive.
