Doctors Remove Teacup From Man Butt After Suffering Severe Abdominal Pain

Doctors in Taiwan have removed a ceramic teacup from a man’s rectum after he arrived at the hospital complaining of severe abdominal pain.

The patient reported being unable to pass stool for three days, accompanied by intense abdominal pain and bloating. An X-ray revealed a ceramic teacup lodged upside down inside his rectum.

Surgeons attempted to remove the cup using medical instruments and later through laparoscopy, but the procedures were unsuccessful. They explained that forcing the cup out risked shattering it, which could lead to internal injuries or serious infection.

Doctors also discovered that the man’s intestine had lost blood supply and had started to die, requiring immediate surgical intervention.

According to surgeon Dr. Wu Kunda, who led the team at Dajia Li General Hospital in Taichung City, the medical team opened the patient’s abdomen and intestines, eventually removing the teacup successfully.

The surgery lasted about two hours, and a temporary colostomy was created to allow the man to pass stool safely during recovery.

Dr. Wu said the man was initially too embarrassed to explain what caused his condition. He later admitted he had tried unsuccessfully to push the cup out on his own before seeking help.

Dr. Wu added that he was shocked when he first saw the X-ray.

When asked how the cup ended up inside him, the patient said: “I don’t know, it was an accident.”
