“Dessers still has levels to go”- Rangers boss Philippe Clement

Rangers coach Phillipe Clement has stated that he wants Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers to affect games more, aside from scoring goals, Soccernet.ng reports.

After a topsy-turvy international break with Nigeria, Dessers returned to club action with a bang on Saturday, scoring for Rangers in their Scottish Premiership game against Hibernian. He doubled their lead with a fine header after James Tavernier scored the opener in the 26th minute.

The 29-year-old striker could have scored a second goal, but he failed to take his chance. Eventually, Dessers was taken off in the 80th minute.

Five minutes later, Rangers scored their third goal through Rabbi Matondo to ensure the game ended 3-1 at the Ibrox Stadium.

Following their win, Clement was quite happy, but he felt Dessers could have done more to help the team. Also, he believes other Rangers players should score more goals to lessen the burden on Dessers and the other strikers.

“Impressed is not the right word with Cyriel. It’s normal, what he can do. And I think there’s still quite some margin to make with him. He’s working hard on that,” Clement said, per Rangers Review.

“For me, it’s not just the striker who has to score goals. They need to do other things for the team. Then, they’ll get situations to score goals. It’s more important to have a team where everyone can score. That’s much more difficult to stop.

“If you have a team where one guy is scoring all the goals, they stop him and the story is finished. We score from everywhere, the strikers, the wingers, the midfielders, the full-backs and centre-backs. Only Jack Butland doesn’t score goals in this team. I want to see football like that because it’s difficult to stop.”

Rangers currently sit at the summit of the Premiership table, two points above reigning champions Celtic. His goal on Saturday was his 13th of the season.
