Dessers Completes Permanent Move to Panathinaikos

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has sealed a permanent transfer to Greek giants Panathinaikos from Rangers, bringing an end to his successful stint in the Scottish Premiership.

The 30-year-old forward joins the 20-time Greek champions for an undisclosed fee and will wear the No. 33 shirt. He is expected to play a pivotal role in attack following the departure of Fotis Ioannidis to Sporting Lisbon.

Dessers leaves Rangers with a remarkable record of more than 100 appearances and 52 goals. During his time at Ibrox, he lifted the League Cup, emerged as the league’s top scorer, and claimed the Sam English Bowl as the club’s leading marksman.

Before moving to Scotland, the Nigerian international featured for Cremonese in Serie A, netting seven goals in 29 outings, and previously impressed with Genk in Belgium. His standout year came at Feyenoord during the 2021/22 season, where he struck 20 goals in all competitions and helped the Dutch side reach the Europa Conference League final.

Dessers’ journey also includes spells at Heracles, Utrecht, and NAC Breda, where he built a reputation as a consistent goal-scorer. Now, as he begins a new chapter in Greece, his immediate focus is with the Super Eagles after earning a call-up to Nigeria’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
