A prominent chieftain from Egbema Kingdom in the Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief Matthew Tiemo JP, has charged the people of Delta South Senatorial District to choose a representative for the district that can bring about innovative leadership as a panacea to the old order that has not brought the needed change.

The Egbema leader made the charge in Warri on Sunday, 4 August 2022, during consultative visits by Commodore Omatseye Nesiama (rtd), the senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP, to both the communities of Egbema from Warri North and the Gbaramatu Ibe-Gbolei from Warri South-West that are both resident in the commercial city of Warri.

Commodore Nesiama who is popularly known as the Commodore of Hope told the communities of Egbema and Gbaramatu Ibe-Gbolei that he answered to the call to represent the people of Delta South in the national assembly because things need to change for the better in the district that has been plagued by poor representation over the years.

He said, "What we are made to believe is that nothing can change. And it worries me so much because we are occupying the heartbeat of this nation in terms of economic resources, but what have we got to show for it? Very little, and it has been a recurring decimal.

"I look at it as a person that if we continue like this we will leave no legacy for our children and they will ask us questions, even in our graves. This haunts my heart and that's why I've answered this call," he told the assembly of Egbema and Gbaramatu indigenes.

The NNPP candidate who said that it is possible for things to change for the better in the district appealed to the communities of Egbema and Gbaramatu Ibe-Gbolei to settle for quality representation, which his candidacy represents, so as to attract the desired change and the dividends of democracy from the center to the district.

Responding, the Secretary of the Gbaramatu Ibe-Gbolei association, Engr. Godspine Ebikeme commended the Commodore of Hope for identifying with the association, saying that while "all powers belong to God" the association "by the grace of God" will support his candidacy to succeed being that the Commodore of Hope is not just their son but one that has shown he has the mental capacity to bring to bear quality representation for Delta South.

On his part, Chief Tiemo on behalf of the Egbema community lamented the poor state of the district while emphasizing in the area of political party that, "These days it is not question of party, it is the personality. When Obama came, was it by party? He came, and at the end of the day he won and became the president in a white man’s country for eight years. Can’t we ask for new ideas? Can’t we look for people who will accept our message?" he queried.

Continuing, Chief Tiemo added: "The message is that we need new ideas, innovation, that’s what I am saying. Ask them to present their manifesto. If anyone is able to, it is just the same wishy-washy. Nothing new in it. We want new ideas, we want new blood. We are tired of the old thing. You have made your presentation. We have heard you. We are to dissect it, and then absorb it."

Among those present from Gbaramatu are its chairman, Rev. Amb. Bibogha Johnson JP, and its chair lady, Mrs. Maria Abai; Chief Samuel Okirika, Chief Jeffrey Ojogun, Chief Felix Eguare, Chief Daniel Okpele, Chief Reuben Tonjoh, Chief Mrs Marian Anumuogharan, Elder Paul Ukuli, Elder Emmanuel Tonlagha; while from the Egbema, Bishop Godwyns Soroaye JP, Bishop Sunny Jero, Chief David Jere, Chief Sule Akpasibewe, Chief Newton Tiemo, Chief David Ugedi, Hon. Israel Tiemo, Hon Benedict Miebi, Hon Shedrack Aboh, Mrs Eunice Odohi, among several others.
