Three individuals, including a foreigner, have been detained by the Delta Police Command in connection to alleged kidnapping activities in the state.

SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the command, informed reporters in Warri on Thursday that the suspects were apprehended over the weekend at their undisclosed locations in Warri.

Edafe explained that the arrests were made by a joint team of police officers from the Orerokpe division and operatives from the Force Intelligence Unit in Abuja.

According to Edafe, intelligence reports on kidnapping cases in the Warri area pointed to the involvement of Yakubu Ya’u in Oha and Ughwagba Communities in Okpe Local Government Area.

He disclosed, “The suspect, along with his accomplices, has been abducting unsuspecting residents for ransom.”

“On May 11, through collaborative efforts of the police operatives from the command and the Force Intelligence Unit in Abuja, the suspect’s hiding place was uncovered,” he added.

“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe division swiftly coordinated the arrest operation in Warri, resulting in the successful apprehension of the suspect after an extensive search,” he mentioned.

After initial investigations and questioning of the main suspect, two other prominent members of the gang, including a Cameroonian national, were arrested on Sunday.

The suspects have been linked to various kidnapping incidents in Orerokpe, Sapele, Warri, and surrounding areas, with victims positively identifying them.

Following the suspects’ lead, police detectives were able to recover two automatic pump-action guns, a live cartridge, and a knife in Ughwagba Community, Okpe Local Government Area.

The police spokesperson highlighted that ongoing preliminary inquiries are underway and emphasized that efforts have been intensified to apprehend the remaining fugitive gang members.
