Defence Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Families of Fallen Heroes

By Tgnews Reporter

The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), OFR, on Tuesday hosted Mr. Hassan Braimah, brother of the late Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja.

Brigadier General Braimah, a seasoned Infantry officer and Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty when he was killed during operations at Benisheikh on April 9, 2026.

He was buried with full military honours on April 15, 2026, at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, alongside seven other personnel who also paid the supreme price.

During the emotionally charged meeting, Mr. Hassan Braimah recounted fond memories of his late brother, describing him as a dedicated and selfless officer who lived and died in service to the nation.

He expressed the family’s deep appreciation for the honour accorded to the General and reiterated their commitment to supporting the widows and children he left behind.

Responding with empathy and resolve, General Musa extended the heartfelt condolences of the Ministry and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria to the Braimah family.

He assured them that the Ministry maintains an open-door policy and remains fully committed to the welfare of all families of fallen heroes.

“The Armed Forces will never abandon the families of those who lay down their lives for this country,” General Musa stated. “We remain committed to providing assistance, care, and direct access to the Ministry whenever needed.”

The visit highlights the Nigerian military’s enduring tradition of honouring its fallen personnel and ensuring their families are not left to bear the burden of their sacrifice alone.

It further reinforces the Ministry of Defence’s pledge to continue supporting bereaved families through sustained welfare programmes and institutional backing.

The Minister’s assurance comes as the Armed Forces intensify operations against insurgency and other security threats across the country, with several officers and soldiers making supreme sacrifices in recent months.
