Davido Says Growing Up Wealthy Shaped His View on Fame

Davido has opened up about one of the most talked-about aspects of his public image—his openness and accessibility to fans.

In a recent interview with VIBE, the Afrobeats superstar responded to the long-standing perception that he is “too free,” explaining that his upbringing and relationship with wealth have shaped the way he chooses to live his life.

“I was 17 with a million dollars. I’ve been seeing money since I was a baby. So all these things don’t really excite me. Sometimes I like to live like a regular person…”

Davido went on to explain that while some artists thrive on maintaining an air of mystery, that approach simply isn’t for him.

“Everybody has their own way. What I do might not work for another. I ain’t trying to call no names, but… Some people, the mystique works for them. Mystique doesn’t work for me. Me, I’m outside. People got to know.”

The singer’s comments highlight his philosophy of staying connected with fans despite his global superstar status. Over the years, Davido has become known for his active social media presence, public interactions, and willingness to engage directly with supporters—qualities that have endeared him to millions around the world.

As one of Africa’s biggest music exports, Davido continues to embrace authenticity over exclusivity, proving that his connection with fans remains one of the defining elements of his success.
