Darby wasn’t the only person to channel Sting on Dynamite 250

Before Darby Allin took a page from his retired partner Sting’s playbook to shock The Elite at the end of the July 17 anniversary edition of Dynamite, a fellow AEW original used another of The Icon’s tricks on her nemesis.

Backing up to set the stage (and highlight another hilarious character beat from Kazuchika Okada)... before her TBS title defense against Nyla Rose, Mercedes Moné had her latest meeting with her buds, The Young Bucks. Before Okada whispers in Matthew Jackson’s ear to ask his crush to do her C.E.O. dance, we learned the EVPs banned Dr. Britt Baker from “backstage” tonight.

If you’ve been watching pro wrestling for any length of time, you noticed the loophole in the heels’ plan. And sure enough, after Mercedes tapped out Rose — with her Statement Maker crossface, after an attempt to troll Baker by using her Lockjaw submission — we learned that Britt bought a ticket and was sitting front row. And since AEW doesn’t sell a DMD mask, she wore a Sting one just like Allin’s mentor used to do.

Shout out to Mercedes for a great sell of the pieface, and reaction to the reveal. Bonus points to Tony Schiavone for remixing his famous Sting intro to “It’s the doctor!”, too.

It all made for a fun moment as AEW continues a strong build to Moné vs. Baker... probably at All In, but definitely on one of several big shows AEW has coming up.
