Hon. Elvert Anyambem, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, has been impeached.

In the early hours of Wednesday, Ayambem was impeached by his colleagues due to allegations of gross misconduct and administrative high-handedness.

It has been revealed that there has been an ongoing plot to remove Anyambem for several months now. Members of the assembly have been expressing concerns about his behavior and way of operating.

As at Tuesday 17 members had signed up for his impeachment and the motion for his removal was moved on the floor of the House by member representing Calabar South 1, Hon. Effiong Ekarika and seconded by Charles Omang.

After impeaching him, the mace was taken away by the members.
