Cristiano Ronaldo, the Al Nassr captain, is currently leading an official Ballon d’Or fan vote created to identify the greatest winning season in the history of the prestigious award, with his 2008 triumph attracting 62% of the votes so far.

The official Ballon d’Or platform launched the special competition at the beginning of October, inviting football fans to vote for the best individual winning campaign in the award’s history rather than simply choosing their favourite player.

The competition features ten football legends who have each claimed the Ballon d’Or at least twice. They are:

· Lionel Messi

· Cristiano Ronaldo

· Ronaldo Nazário

· Marco van Basten

· Michel Platini

· Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

· Kevin Keegan

· Franz Beckenbauer

· Johan Cruyff

· Alfredo Di Stéfano

In the current standings, Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2008 season is leading with 62 per cent of the vote. That was the year he won his first Ballon d’Or while playing for Manchester United.

Fans taking part in the vote are required to pay €1 per vote and are allowed to vote as many times as they wish, including casting multiple votes for the same player.

Voting officially closes on October 27 at midnight.
