General Christopher Musa, Defence Minister, has spoken following confirmation by the Defence Headquarters that 16 military officers were arrested for planning to overthrow President Bola Tinubu’s government

In an interview with Channels Television, General Musa stated that the coup plot began with a colonel who felt bitter because he was not promoted. He said the colonel did not meet the required standards for promotion and became disgruntled.

General Musa said the colonel then went around looking for other soldiers who had one issue or another within the military and tried to bring them into his plan to carry out a coup. He said he finds it hard to imagine that a colonel could even think of attempting to carry out a coup.
