Vocal city lawyer Wahome Thuku has warned the opposition against fighting each other, cautioning that such actions could pave the way for President William Ruto’s victory in 2027.

In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Wahome Thuku defended former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i for failing to attend The United Opposition press briefing earlier in the day.

The lawyer, allied to the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), cited that Matiang’i was in back-to-back meetings, hence his absence from the press briefing at the SKM Command Centre in Lavington.

Wahome Thuku warned the opposition against fighting among themselves, noting that President William Ruto would be the main beneficiary if they continued to do so. He cautioned them to “prepare to swear in Ruto in 2027” if they don’t change course.

“Fred Matiang’i has been in back-to-back meetings the whole day. I know it. I don’t know what it will benefit the opposition to fight each other, to fight Matiang’i or to fight Kalonzo or Riggy G. We proceed that way, then we may just prepare for Ruto’s swearing-in in 2027. And it will not be a big deal,” Wahome Thuku said on Facebook.

The United Opposition press briefing ahead of November by election

This comes hours after former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka hosted a section of opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Governor George Natembeya, and former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, among other leaders.

During the press briefing, the opposition camp vowed to work together to ensure their candidates emerge victorious in the upcoming by-elections scheduled for November 27. Additionally, the United Opposition, led by Kalonzo and Rigathi Gachagua, drummed up support against President William Ruto, vowing to make sure he serves only one term.

However, what caught the attention of Kenyans was the absence of Jubilee presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i. The former CS is among opposition figures viewed as a top contender capable of unseating Ruto in the 2027 general election.
