“Wrestling has more than one royal family,” declares the opening line of Cody Rhodes’ entrance theme. But judging by his actions since WWE’s return to live touring, “The American Nightmare” may belong to more than one family: Cody Rhodes might be a Dudley.

Rhodes defeated Undisputed WWE Champion Drew McIntyre by disqualification Thursday night in Newcastle upon Tyne. The title, however, remained with McIntyre, who won it from Rhodes the previous week in Berlin, Germany, on SmackDown.

After dropping Rhodes with a low blow to force the disqualification, McIntyre tried to drive his head into a chair wedged in the corner. Rhodes reversed it, sending the champion face-first into the steel.

Still hungry for payback, Rhodes went full D-Von Dudley and pulled a table from under the ring, then dropped McIntyre with a single punch. With the champion laid out, Rhodes climbed to the top rope and delivered a splash, putting McIntyre through the table before briefly posing with the title.

The scene mirrored what happened one week earlier in Berlin, where Rhodes drove McIntyre through a table with a dive from the arena balcony. His latest table dive continued a trend that began on WWE’s Holiday Live Tour in December, where he repeatedly put McIntyre through tables in cities like Baltimore, Detroit, and Syracuse.

While he claims the last name Rhodes, his growing obsession with tables raises another possibility. Although he doesn’t share the typical Dudley traits, such as taped glasses or a fondness for tie-dyed shirts, his thirst for tables may be enough to warrant a DNA test to rule out any Dudley doubts.
