In a post shared on his Instagram page on March 27, Okose claimed that, in today’s religious landscape, being regarded as a “real man of God” allegedly requires compromising one’s values.

Nigerian clergyman Emmanuel Okose has stirred controversy on social media after making a bold and provocative statement about the state of the church.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on March 27, Okose claimed that, in today’s religious landscape, being regarded as a “real man of God” allegedly requires compromising one’s values.

He suggested that some church circles operate like exclusive groups, where individuals are expected to secretly identify as bisexual and align themselves with certain “cartels” in order to gain acceptance and recognition.

Expressing his frustration, the clergyman lamented what he described as a decline in spiritual authenticity within the church. According to him, those who refuse to conform to these alleged expectations often find themselves sidelined and not regarded as genuine ministers.

He wrote in part that the church has “become a joke,” adding that without joining these supposed inner circles, one may struggle to be acknowledged as a true servant of God. Okose further stated his belief that the Holy Spirit has departed from many churches, emphasizing that his generation is in dire need of spiritual cleansing and renewal.

Despite his criticism, he ended his message on a note of conviction, referencing a biblical assurance that the church will ultimately endure, quoting Matthew 16:18: “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

His remarks have since sparked widespread reactions online, with many social media users debating the accuracy of his claims, while others have criticized or supported his perspective.
