A Chinese woman has left many stunned after discovering she was pregnant only to give birth an hour later, following a gruelling 1,500-mile (2,400km) hike.

The woman, identified as Mrs Dong, had trekked close to the border with Mongolia and travelled on foot to Luoyang, a journey that lasted 139 days.

According to reports, Mrs Dong decided to visit a hospital on February 13, 2026, after developing what she believed was a severe cold following the exhausting hike, which exposed her to strong winds and heavy rain. Before reaching the hospital, she was also involved in a car accident but survived.

On arrival at the medical facility, doctors shocked her with the news that she was pregnant. Moments later, they informed her that her water had already broken.

Despite having no prior knowledge of the pregnancy, Mrs Dong went into labour and gave birth to a healthy baby boy weighing about 5.5lbs (2.5kg). Both mother and child were confirmed to be in stable condition.

It was also revealed that Mrs Dong suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder often associated with irregular menstrual cycles, which may have contributed to the cryptic pregnancy.

After surviving the long trek, the accident, and the unexpected delivery, Mrs Dong described her newborn son as “A lucky baby”.
