Chaos in Onitsha Market as OCHA Brigade Officers Open Fire, Leaving Four Dead Including a Pregnant woman

There was chaos in Onitsha, Anambra State, after operatives of the OCHA Brigade reportedly opened fire at the city’s main market, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a pregnant woman.

The OCHA Brigade, a state-run enforcement agency in Anambra, is tasked with maintaining environmental order, enforcing cleanliness, discipline, and ensuring overall public health across the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when brigade officials entered the market and instructed traders to remove their wares from restricted areas. The order quickly escalated into heated arguments between traders and the operatives.

In the course of the confrontation, shots were allegedly fired, sparking panic and chaos in the busy market. Tragically, the gunfire is said to have claimed the lives of four individuals, among them a pregnant woman.

“This is heartbreaking. Four innocent people who left their homes this morning have been cut down in cold blood. Among them is a pregnant woman. Anambra people are now living in fear because criminals have been handed guns and uniforms in the name of government enforcement”a distraught trader said
