CERVIX MUCUS - OVULATION BOOST

CERVIX MUCUS - OVULATION BOOST

¶ There are some glands that are found in the cervix that produce mucus.

¶ This mucus is usually thick and doesn't allow sperm and organisms that cause infections to go through the cervix and get into the womb.

¶ The thickness and amount of mucus produced changes throughout the menstrual cycle. Changes go hand in hand with hormonal changes in the body.

¶ Cervical mucus can help you tell when ovulation is taking place. You can track your mucus to help you get pregnant or avoid pregnancy. This is what we call fertility awareness or cervical monitoring. Always have a back up plan if you're not planning on getting pregnant.

¶ During menses, you are very likely not to notice mucus changes because of the blood.

¶ After your menses, you might not notice any mucus or discharge ( these are your dry days )

¶ Your body produces cervical mucus before ovulation occurs. This mucus may be yellow, white, or cloudy and may feel gluey or stretchy in consistency.

¶ At mid cycle ( menstrual cycle), the levels of estrogen ( female hormone ) goes up. This increase in estrogen changes the quality of the cervical mucus. The mucus is usually more clear, stretchy, watery, and slippery . It looks like egg white. The mucus with this texture and pH serve as protection for sperm. You're most fertile at this point.

¶ The cervical mucus is more salty as well during this period.

¶ After you ovulate, your mucus returns to its thick , glue-like nature and vaginal discharge reduces.

¶ When your partner ejaculates into your vagina, the cervical mucus that has been changed by estrogen during midcycle separates the sperm from from what is not sperm.

¶ Your cervical mucus traps and is able to hold the sperm that it has picked up for up to 72 hrs to increase your chances of pregnancy.

It releases it gradually.

¶ Your cervix doesn't hold the sperm it doesn't need. You will definitely have some sperm flowing out of your vagina after sex.

¶There are times that your cervix doesn't or isn't able to produce mucus like its supposed to.

¶ If you have undergone any procedure at your cervix ( when part if your cervix is cut and send to the lab for testing) or you have had cervical cancer treatment, your mucus production will definitely be reduced.

¶ If you have a cervical infection , the quality of your cervical mucus can also worsen.

¶ Pregnancy :

You might notice stickier, white, or yellow mucus, known as leucorrhea. This discharge can change with progression of pregnancy. pregnancy progresses.

¶ Using certain contraceptives eg IUD , pills

This thicken cervical mucus so sperm can’t reach the egg

¶ Using certain medication eg clomid

This decreases the quality and quantity of cervical mucus and makes it hostile. Sperm isn't able to go through the cervix as it should and pregnancy becomes more difficult to attain.

¶ Insufficient production of fertile quality cervical mucus or the presence of hostile cervical mucus can also be as a result of eg your diet, stress or hormonal issues ( hostile or unfriendly cervical mucus is thick and sticky, instead of thin and stretchy around ovulation )

¶ If you're not sure about your cervical mucus , or you notice your mucus is unfriendly, you can always talk to your doctor.

¶ You can also check your diet, stress levels, stay hydrated , be mindful of the medication you self prescribe and stop putting spices and unwanted substances into your vagina. If you have an infection, get it treated the right way.
