BYD Just Sued the U.S. Government for the Right to Sell $20,000 EVs – American Car Makers Are Already Hiding Under Their Desks

BYD: “We’d like to sell our $20–25k electric cars in the United States please.” U.S. tariffs: “100% extra, thank you very much.” BYD: “…okay, see you in court.”

They just filed a lawsuit challenging the massive tariffs that basically act like a “Keep Out” sign for cheap Chinese EVs.

If BYD wins, imagine the scene:

• $22,000 BYD Seagulls and Dolphins flooding dealerships
• Tesla Model 3 owners suddenly realizing their car costs more than three BYDs stacked together
• Ford and GM executives refreshing Expedia for one-way flights to Canada

American legacy automakers right now: “Protecting American jobs? Yes. Protecting our profit margins from $20k EVs? Also yes. Losing sleep? Extremely yes.”

Meanwhile Elon somewhere: “Bring it on. I love competition. (quietly moving the Cybertruck price slider up another $5k)”

The lawsuit is basically BYD saying: “Let us in… or we’ll keep making cars that cost less than your average used Corolla and laugh from across the Pacific.”
