Builder Discovers Over 2,000 Unexploded World War II Bombs at Construction Site

A builder was left stunned after uncovering more than 2,000 unexploded World War II bombs while working at a construction site in Poland.

The shocking discovery was made after the worker unearthed several artillery shells, prompting an immediate emergency response. Bomb disposal units were quickly called to the scene, and the area was secured to prevent public access.

The incident occurred in Jasionka, near Rzeszów, Poland, on Tuesday, December 9, at around 11 a.m.

Officers from the mine-laying and pyrotechnic reconnaissance group later confirmed that the items discovered were unexploded artillery shells dating back to World War II.

On the first day of the operation, 750 shells were recovered before worsening weather conditions and nightfall forced teams to suspend the search.

Work resumed the following day, leading to the discovery of an additional 1,314 shells, bringing the total number of unexploded devices found at the site to 2,064.

Sappers from the 21st Battalion of the Polish Army in Rzeszów were deployed to safely remove the bombs. The explosives were later transported to a secure location where they will be neutralised.

Reacting to the bombs, A Spokesperson for the Rzeszów Municipal Police Headquarters said: “750 artillery shells were unearthed.

“Due to weather conditions and the approaching darkness, work was suspended until the following day.

“Officers from the Trzebownisko police station secured the area of the dangerous discovery throughout the night.

“If you find an unexploded ordnance, you should immediately notify the police.

“Do not touch or move the unexploded ordnance.

“It is also important to secure the site until the appropriate services arrive and prevent other people unaware of the threat from endangering themselves.”
