Chelsea’s woes on the road continued once again on Christmas Eve as Wolverhampton Wanderers beat them 2-1 at Molineux. The Blues were once again their own worst enemies as they wasted countless opportunities in front of goal.

A late Christopher Nkunku goal was effectively a consolation with Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty scoring second-half goals to give Wolves all three points. It is now four defeats on the bounce away from home for Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea.

“We were talking a lot at the beginning of the season,” Pochettino said to Sky Sports at full-time. “We are young in age. It is a young team.

“We have players playing for the first time in the league. They need to adapt. It is confidence and about quality.” With this being said, football.london brings you some moments you may have missed from the encounter at Molineux.

Nkunku shines for Blues
He might not be deemed ready enough to start a game, but even in a cameo appearance, Nkunku once again showed why Chelsea supporters have been so excited to see him play. The 26-year-old was fantastic in his half-hour stint.

The Frenchman recorded a 100 per cent passing success rate. Also, no player on either side had more shots on target – three – than Nkunku.

Nkunku of course grabbed his first Chelsea goal as well. A fine header into the bottom corner to give the Blues a bit of hope in stoppage time, although they could not find an equaliser afterwards.

Silva livid with Disasi
Axel Disasi partnered Thiago Silva in the centre of the Chelsea defence on Sunday afternoon. Malo Gusto came into the side, meaning Disasi moved across to centre-back, with Benoit Badiashile dropping to the bench at Molineux.

At one point, though, Silva was left incensed with something Disasi did. Wolves were attacking on the left-hand side and it looked as if the ball went out of play, but the referee did not think that was the case.

Disasi was appealing, with a very good view of proceedings, and almost stopped playing in his protests to the referee. Silva then started to shout at Disasi, making hand gestures as well, as he clearly thought his centre-back partner should have played to the whistle – one of the age-old fundamentals in football.

Sterling furious with Jackson
Chelsea were so wasteful in front of goal; something that has let them down so many times already this season. At one point in the first-half, Raheem Sterling clipped the ball over the top and found Nicolas Jackson in lots of space.

It looked as if though Jackson could have taken on the shot first time but the striker instead tried to bring the ball down. He, however, could not control the ball as well as he would have liked.

You could see Sterling’s frustration with his teammate when this happened. That was it, though. It was really frustrating from a Chelsea perspective.

It was so nearly there. But they were just too wasteful in the attacking third. Their decision-making, at times, was also really, really poor.
