Breaking News: Progress made as Tripartite committee nears consensus on new minimum wage, says Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has announced that significant headway has been achieved by the Tripartite Committee in reaching a decision on a fresh national minimum wage.

Uzodimma made this revelation following the conclusion of the committee’s meeting on Friday in Abuja.

The lengthy meeting spanned over 12 hours.

Describing the discussions, Uzodimma said, “We engaged in productive deliberations as this is a technical subcommittee of a larger committee.

“At the committee level, we are nearing consensus, and once we convene plenary, we anticipate reaching a complete agreement that will enable the media to disseminate information. Presently, we are in a more positive position compared to before,” Uzodimma stated.

He explained that following the unit meetings’ conclusion, the committee has advanced to plenary sessions where decisions will be unified to determine a definitive figure.

Reports from PUNCH Online revealed that the proposed N60,000 wage offer was rejected by organized labor, prompting a nationwide strike on Monday.

Subsequently, the strike was halted on Tuesday when the Federal Government assured an increment beyond N60,000, paving the way for resumed negotiations.

The ongoing meeting, the fifth post-labor action suspension, is being conducted discreetly at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.

Distinguished members present comprise the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Minister of Labour and Employment (State), Nkiruka Onyejeocha, Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, a delegate from the Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, and Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu.
