BREAKING NEWS: just in from Fabrizio Romano “Your Career Is Over Here” – an official announcement by the owner of Chelsea FC this afternoon, following the team’s loss to Wolverhampton.

Chelsea’s poor finishing could cost Mauricio Pochettino his job at the club. The Blues have squandered numerous big chances so far this season, and they were equally toothless in their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves on Christmas Eve.

Since he arrived at the club, Todd Boehly and co have forked out over £1billion on new signings in the hope of rebuilding Chelsea into a European force. However, their funds appear to have been wildly misspent at this stage.

Although the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Cole Palmer have provided a silver lining at Stamford Bridge, Pochettino is still working with a crop of players that are not at the standard that the Blues are expected to be competing at.

Chelsea’s biggest issues come in the final third though, as their current frontline is incredibly wasteful in front of goal – and it is costing the team valuable points. The Blues have missed 36 of their 57 big chances in the Premier League so far this season, more than any other English top-flight club.

Newly promoted Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United have all been more ruthless in front of goal than Chelsea, despite having a fraction of their budget to work with in the transfer windows. The Blues also have the second-biggest differentiation between their expected goals and their actual goals scored (-6.8 with just 29 goals from an xG of 35.8) – with only Manchester United managing a worse record (-9.5).

With results still showing no signs of improving, pressure is mounting on the shoulders of Pochettino and he will be hoping that Christopher Nkunku’s return to fitness can solve his main issue. Speaking after his side’s loss at Molineux, the former Tottenham boss said: “We are talking a lot from the beginning about how this group of players is very young.

Chelsea are expected to dip into the January transfer market to try and solve their goalscoring issues, with Napoli star Victor Osimhen and Brentford ace Ivan Toney among those being heavily considered by the higher powers at the club.
