BREAKING: Attackers NLC President Arrested, To Be Made Public

National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, announced on Wednesday that arrests have been made in connection with the assault on Joe Ajaero, the National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Ajaero was attacked in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1, during a workers’ protest over unpaid salaries. In response, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) initiated a nationwide strike, demanding the apprehension of the suspected thugs and their sponsors.

Ribadu, in a statement signed by Zakari U Mijinyawa, Head of Strategic Communications in the Office of the National Security Adviser, called on organized labor to halt the ongoing nationwide strike. He acknowledged the strike’s impact on economic activities in some regions and assured the public that the investigation’s outcome would be disclosed.

In his statement, Ribadu expressed concern about the strike’s implications, stating, “The NSA is particularly worried about the implications of the strike action on the livelihood of ordinary Nigerians and its potential impact on economic security and other strategic national interests.”

He condemned the assault on Ajaero, emphasizing the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and principles of freedom of association. Ribadu assured, “The Federal Government will never condone such an act.”

As a response to the incident, Ribadu stated, “Relevant authorities were directed to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault and bring to book the culprits.” He provided an update on the progress, noting, “Available information indicates that some arrests have already been made in this regard. The outcome of the investigation will be made public as soon as it is concluded.”
