District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bongo District in the Upper East Region, Hon. Joseph Abaa Akaseke, is dead.

His unexpected passing has caused shockwaves among his political party members and the citizens of Bongo.

The cause of his death remains unclear; however, reports suggest that he passed away following a brief illness.

His family has not yet commented on the situation, but tributes are flooding social media in his honour.

Joseph Abaa Akaseke was recognised for his commitment to the development of Bongo and worked diligently to ensure the district received its equitable share of national resources.

It is worth noting that in April 2025, the late official was among 81 other metropolitan, municipal, and district chief executives (MMDCEs) nominated across nine regions, increasing the total number of new MMDCEs to 152, with 109 positions still unfilled at that time.

He was later confirmed in the same month as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bongo, achieving an impressive endorsement from assembly members and pledging to provide transparent, inclusive, and participatory leadership for the district’s residents.

The confirmation ceremony, which took place at the Bongo District Circuit Court, witnessed Abaa receiving 52 out of 54 valid votes cast.
