BLACK SUNDAY: Over 30 Feared Dead in Fatal Kano Road Crash

Tragedy struck Kano State on Sunday as over 30 people reportedly lost their lives in a fatal road accident at Kwanar Barde, in Gezawa Local Government Area.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved a trailer heading towards Gujungu that allegedly crashed due to reckless driving. Several other passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature. The governor expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as heartbreaking.

Governor Yusuf directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to ensure that all injured victims admitted to hospitals receive free and adequate medical care without delay. He also instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to immediately assess the situation and implement support measures for the affected families.

According to the governor, the tragedy represents a great loss not only to the bereaved families but to the entire people of Kano State. He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and for the speedy recovery of those currently receiving medical attention.

The governor further warned motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to desist from reckless driving and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent avoidable loss of lives.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kano State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Efforts to reach the FRSC spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, were unsuccessful.
