Bayo Adelabu, Teslim Folarin, Florence Ajimobi Absent as Oyo APC Governorship Candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli Receives INEC Nomination Form, Unveils Running Mate

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, on Thursday officially received his nomination form from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election and unveiled Micheal Adesoji Adedeji as his running mate.

The presentation ceremony, held in Ibadan, attracted party leaders, stakeholders and supporters from across the state. However, notable APC chieftains and former governorship aspirants, including Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Senator Teslim Folarin and former First Lady, Mrs. Florence Ajimobi, were absent from the event.

Speaking after receiving the nomination form, Senator Alli expressed appreciation to the APC leadership and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to lead an inclusive campaign focused on unity, grassroots mobilisation and reclaiming Oyo State for the APC.

Alli also formally introduced Micheal Adesoji Adedeji as his deputy governorship candidate, describing him as a competent, experienced and energetic partner who would strengthen the party’s quest for victory at the polls.

Party leaders at the event urged members to close ranks and work together to ensure the APC emerges victorious in the forthcoming governorship election. They emphasized that the party’s success would depend on unity and commitment from all stakeholders.

The absence of some prominent APC figures, including Adelabu, Folarin and Ajimobi, has sparked discussions among party members, although no official explanation was given for their non-attendance.

The presentation of the INEC nomination form marks the formal commencement of Senator Alli’s campaign as the APC flagbearer, with the party expressing confidence in its chances of returning to power in Oyo State.
