Barack Obama Sends Heartfelt Tribute to Raila Odinga

Former president of the United States, Barack Obama, has send his message of condolences to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

While taking to his social media handles on Saturday 18th, Obama celebrated Raila noting that he played a pivotal role in fighting for freedom and self governance in Kenya. Barack Obama described Raila Odinga as a champion of democracy.

“Raila Odinga was a true champion of democracy. A child of independence, he endured decades of struggle and sacrifice for the broader cause of freedom and self-governance in Kenya.” the former United States president said.

The former. US head of state further noted that he personally experienced Raila Odinga putting the country ahead of his own ambitions. Obama who has Kenyan roots from Luo land, went on to explaining how the late Prime Minister set an example not only in Kenya and Africa but also across the world.

Obama concluded by sending his condolences together with that of Michelle Obama to the family of Mr Odinga and the people of Kenya.

This comes after Kenyans flooded social media, urging the former United States President to at least pay tribute to Raila Odinga. Odinga, who died on Wednesday, October 15, hailed from Kisumu in the lake region of Kenya, the same area where Obama’s father, Barack Obama Sr., originated.

As such, many Kenyans were hopeful that Obama would send a message of condolence to the Odinga family and the nation at large. His recent message on social media now appears to be a response to those calls.
