In a recent chat with Capital XTRA, the fast-rising Afrobeats star opened up about life on tour and shared some hilarious memories from performing around the world.

She recalled her time in Australia with a big smile, saying the crowd was instantly on her side: “Australia was fine. They loved Ayra.”

But things took a very different turn when the tour rolled into the American Midwest. The singer confessed that the audience there didn’t exactly know who she was. “We went to America, and it was like the Midwest, and they’ve never heard of me before in their lives,” she laughed. To paint the picture, she described spotting a girl in the front row eating pizza like it was just another night, completely unfazed by her performance.

Rather than seeing it as discouraging, Ayra Starr called it part of her growth. “I feel like God is just training me. Now there’s nowhere I can’t perform. I can perform at 90-year-old birthday parties. I can perform anywhere. I will be good.”

She wrapped up by reflecting on the difference between fans who know her songs word-for-word and those who just stare blankly: “It was a different experience, especially me when I’m used to people singing my song, and now I’m having people just looking at me like…” she said, breaking into a playful puzzled expression that sent everyone laughing.

For Ayra, it’s all part of the journey, proof that she can bring her energy and charm to any stage, whether it’s a stadium in Australia or a quiet corner in the American Midwest.
